Mutual Funds or Equity Indexed Annuity?

INSURANCE PHOENIX

So you have some savings set aside that you don't need access to, other than putting it somewhere safe where it can earn some interest.

Mutual Funds are popular. But you already have your 401k. Do you need more money in stocks and bonds?

What about an Equity Indexed Annuity? Here is an explanation in a nutshell.

EIA = The money is invested in an index. Examples of two indexes are the S & P 500 and Russell 2000. You earn a participation rate, which means you earn a portion of whatever total return the index earns.

Let's say the index earns 10% one year. You would make a portion of that, which could be 70%, 80% or more. The insurance company keeps the difference. Is that a rip off?

Absolutely not. The reason you share the profits with the insurance company is because they guarantee NO losing years. The worst you will ever do in an Equity Indexed Annuity is earn zero.

Now - would you trade a percentage of the profits for a guarantee you will never see your balance go negative? It is a pretty interesting trade off.

In Mutual Funds, you know you will see down years. Likely, you have had a few years you remember all too well. It won't happen with an Equity Indexed Annuity.

Arizona Boat Insurance and Arizona Motorcycle Insurance

Carry lots of Medical and Liability protection if you participate in either activity. Certain activities in life carry greater potential risk of injury, and boating and motorcycling are two great examples.

Do not avoid these coverage. Do not skimp.

Ask your agent for a range of quotes to protect yourself.

Failure to carry either coverage or failure to carry enough, will set you up for a potential lawsuit that could affect your assets and income.

Air Powered Car

It's true, apparently. A vehicle that runs on compressed air.

India has developed a car that you fill up with compressed air, a cost of about $2 per tank. That's quite the difference from the $30-$50 it takes to fill a gas tank at the moment.

One news report suggested that this vehicle will never see the light of day in the United States because of safety concerns. Perhaps the vehicle is too light, too thin or made with a material deemed too lightweight.

That is too bad. American consumers could use a car that could potentially drive cross country on what amounts to one tank of gas today.

Auto Insurance and Bodily Injury

You are a safe driver. Never any accidents or speeding tickets. But you know it CAN happen right?

Auto insurance will cover your vehicle if damaged or stolen. It will fix the other person's vehicle that you damage. It will even cover the injuries, to a point.

When you buy auto insurance do you consider your policy has levels of coverage? For example: you can carry (in Arizona) $15,000 bodily injury. That means if you hit someone and they are hurt your policy will pay out up to that amount.

It really is a paltry amount these days, isn't it.

You could have BI in the following increments: $15,000, $25,000, $50,000, $100,000, $250,000, $500,000 and $1,000,000.

If you hurt someone while driving your vehicle, wouldn't you rather carry $500,000 BI than $15,000?

Your assets will be alot safer, as will your income.

You might be surprised how little it costs to have the better coverage too. Talk with your agent. Have him or her run some scenarios to better protect your assets.

Think Umbrella

You buy auto and home insurance, and maybe even life insurance. I am sure many of you feel "insurance poor". Me too, from time to time.

There is one more insurance product you really need to consider - an Umbrella policy.

Umbrella's are designed to protect against the worst of the worst claims against you. Maybe you hit another vehicle and there were injuries, or you hit someone on a bicycle or motorcycle. A claim and likely lawsuit will follow.

What if the claim exceeded your limits on your auto policy?

You would have to spend your own money defending the lawsuit possibly and use your own money to pay any judgement.

That is where an Umbrella comes in. Take this friendly advice in a sue happy world - buy an Umbrella. They are relatively cheap, considering.

Saving Money on Auto Insurance

I used to work for a captive insurance agency where you represented one company and offered only one rate.

As an independent insurance agent (and owner) I can represent MANY different "A" rated companies and offer many different rates.
